There is plenty written around the web about camber, caster, toe, ride height so we won't cover that here.



Tyre Temps & Pressures:

Aim for 70-85C (165-185f)

As the tyres warm so the pressures will rise and this has a noticable effect on the stiffness of the tyre.

The balance of the kart will probably change over the first 3-5 laps. Don't judge your setup after only 3 corners.



Torsion Bar:

On a normal car, when it turns the outside wheels have to travel faster than the inside wheels since they are covering more distance. To allow this to happen, a differential is fitted. On a kart, there is NO differential! So how does it turn? Well if both wheels stay flat on the ground then it has to scrub the outside tyre. To overcome this, kart chassis are designed flex so it lifts the inside rear wheel right off the gorund. Once the inside wheel is in the air, the outside wheel is free to turn as tightly as needed without scrubbing.

The torsion bar controls how easily the chassis can flex and therefore how much cornering force is needed to lift the inside wheel.

So, the stiffer the torsion bar (higher number), the less easily the kart will turn but the more stable it will be, especially under brakes.



Brakes:

Remember, the brakes work on the back axle only! If you brake while cornering its the same as pullling on the handbrake in a normal car and you will spin unless done delicately. Brake in a straight line and get off the brakes before corner entry.

Increasing the torsion bar setting will aid braking stability, the trade off is that it will also induce some understeer.

The minimum brake pressure is 90%. This is still enough to lock the rear wheels however if you keep the steering straight while braking then it shouldn't be a problem. Those with load cell pedals may prefer the pressure setting higher which can make modulating the brake pedal easier.



Gearing:

Choose from a 14t engine sprocket combined with axle sprokets of 70t-81t

or 12t on the engine side and 70t-95t on the axle.

This gives an overal ratio range of 5.00 to 7.75.
