For those that have raced karts in real life before, this will be familiar.
For everyone else, it is important you read this carefully.
We are going to use a rolling start BUT we will do it manually rather than allow rF to get involved.
In simple terms, rF will think the race has started but we will instead do a formation lap with the aim of being in two neat lines as we complete the lap. We start when one of the admins types 'GO GO GO'. If the pack is not in a neat formation by the start/finish line, we do another pace lap!
Here's how it works in detail:
- We set rFactor for a standing start and the race is set to be 1 lap longer.
- We have the normal 30sec countdown and when the lights go green instead of all rushing off the grid, we begin our formation lap. (NOTE: RF thinks the race has started but stay in formation, do not weave or jump ahead).
- The pole sitter does the first half of the lap at about 30-40% race speed but then slows down and ENGAGES THE PIT LANE LIMITER half way around so the field can bunch up in 2 neat lines. Keep it slow, we are not racing yet!
- It is the pole sitter's responsibility to engage the limiter early enough for the field to bunch up, the 2nd place guy must not exceed the pole position pace.
- We then roll in formation on the limiter. The pole man may not release the limiter until race admin types "GO GO GO". (Typically anywhere from 1 metre to 30 metres before the start line).
- DO NOT release the limiter until you see the admin's message.
